What is New Media?

New media can be defined as the new technologies that allows for mass communication. With new media information is delivered to large groups almost at the speed of light. When compared to old media like new a newspaper where the information was hours or days old.New media has five characteristic’s communication, collaboration, community, creativity and convergence. (Friedman, 9) When these characteristics combine it allows for rapid communication and seamless collaboration between individuals and groups. This spawns communities of like-minded people, which spur creativity. Finally convergence brings this all together so that we can have a unified way of communicating and collaborating with others. It becomes seamless for us to distribute and receive information to individuals or communities around the world.
